I was reading aloud a book about vegetables to Jonathan and Kristi's 5 & 6 year olds in conjunction with the class study on nutrition. Great photos, kind of didactic text. The text says, "Some people plant vegetable gardens. They grow just enough food for their families to eat. Other people grow vegetables to sell. Most of the vegetables we eat come from huge farms. Farmers harvest vegetables with machines. Some vegetables are sent to stores right away."
A little boy lights up. He is filled with amazement. He exclaims loudly, "Oh! NOW I get it! The store doesn't grow them! They don't even know how to grow them! They get them from farms!"
I wonder if he thought all those sprayers in the supermarket were watering the plants.
