Little Brains at Work

(a photo of yours truly in my old job, with thanks to my colleague Anna)

Recent comments:

An 8 year old girl: "Oh...The Jungle Book. I didn't know it was an actual book. I thought it was just a movie."

A 5 year old boy, when I was reading a story aloud which took place in Pennsylvania:
"Pennsylvania! That's where the VAMPIRES are!" (and how he knows Transylvania is beyond me).

I had been showing 6 & 7 year old students how to find books on lots of nonfiction topics and one by one they had asked, "Where can I find manatees?" "Where can I find knights?", etc. Finally it was Adam's turn, who had been waiting patiently.

Adam: "Natalie, do you know where water is?"
Me: "Oh, I have lots of books about water. Are you interested in the water cycle? Oceans? Lakes?"
Adam: "No, like drinking water."
Me: "Oh, here's one called The Water We Drink."
Adam: "No, like the water fountain. I just need a drink of water."

A 10 year old boy, entering for the next installment of my read-aloud, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight [in a way-cool tone]:
"Ri-i-i-ght. Last time, we left Sir Gawain busy making out with the lady in his bedroom."
'Tis true.

And here is "Werner Herzog" reading aloud Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel (if the embed doesn't work, click here):

  1. You had me laughing out loud with the water comments. Boy has that type of "communication" happened to me before!
